The commercial diamonds can be natural untreated or treated in order to improve their optical characteristics.
For instance, black inclusions are removed by laser drilling or etching then the gemstone is filled with a compound of high refractive index.
The coloured diamonds are also produced by using various methods of treatment.
The colour and clarity of diamonds can be changed with the help of the following treatments:
